They were very comfortable. My foot is narrow and I did not feel they were too wide. My only complaint is when I looked at the bottom of the shoe the next day, the soles of the shoe were very worn and I'm not sure if I will get many more wearings. I ordered these hiking shoes right before a week in the Smokys, so they came out of the box and went immediately on the trail. They were absolutely the most comfortable hiking shoes I've ever worn. It rained some while we were on the trail and the shoes had great traction, even on slippery, wet rocks. I also ordered these same shoes for my daughters in the youth sizes. Their shoes performed equally well in the mountains. In fact, they prefer them to their tennis shoes at home. It was a little smaller than I thought it would be when it came but I put folders in it and it appears to be regular size.
